How the Horsforth Local Lottery works

Last updated: 27 April 2026

Age Requirement

You must be 18 or over to purchase a Horsforth Local Lottery ticket. Our retail partners are required by law to refuse sales to anyone who appears to be under 18. By purchasing a ticket, you confirm that you are 18 or older.

Buying a Ticket

Tickets cost £1 each and are available from authorised retail outlets throughout Horsforth. Each ticket bears a unique number. A current list of stockists is published on this website. Outlets may change from time to time at the discretion of the lottery subcommittee.

The Draw

The draw takes place on the first Tuesday of every month, overseen by members of Horsforth Town Team. It is typically held at around 6pm at The Old Kings Arms, The Green, Horsforth, LS18 5JB. Each draw is filmed and broadcast live on social media. The subcommittee reserves the right to change the date or venue of a draw with advance notice via this website and social media.

How Winners Are Selected

Winning tickets are drawn at random from all valid tickets sold for that month's draw. The draw is conducted using a physical random selection process witnessed by at least two members of the subcommittee who are not themselves eligible to win. Five separate winning tickets are drawn in sequence, each corresponding to a prize tier.

Prize Structure

Five prizes are awarded in each draw, calculated as a percentage of the total ticket revenue for that month. All amounts are rounded to the nearest whole Horsforth Pound (H£).

Prize Share of Monthly Revenue
1st Prize30%
2nd Prize20%
3rd Prize15%
4th Prize10%
5th Prize5%

The total prize pool is therefore up to 80% of monthly revenue. The remaining 20% covers the running costs of the lottery and funds local charities, community groups, and other good causes. All allocations are publicly advertised.

Claiming Your Prize

Winning ticket numbers are announced at the draw and published on this website and social media. If you hold a winning ticket, contact a member of the lottery subcommittee as soon as possible using the contact form or by presenting your ticket in person at a draw event.

Winners must agree to have their photograph taken by the subcommittee. These photographs are shared with participating businesses solely for the purpose of validating prize redemptions. They are not shared publicly without consent.

Validating a Ticket

A ticket is valid if it is clearly legible, has not been altered or tampered with, and bears a number that matches a winning draw. Damaged tickets (for example, where the number is illegible due to water damage, tearing, or other defacement) cannot be accepted as valid. Prizes will not be paid without presentation of a valid winning ticket.

Unclaimed Prizes

Prizes must be claimed within 6 months of the draw date. Prizes not claimed within this period will be forfeited and retained for distribution to local good causes. If you are unable to claim within 6 months, please contact us as soon as possible to discuss your circumstances.

Spending Your Winnings

All prizes are paid in Horsforth Pounds (H£). There is no cash alternative under any circumstances. H£ notes can be spent at any participating business that displays the Horsforth Pound sign. No change in sterling will be given for a Horsforth Pound. Each note must be spent in full in a single transaction.

Horsforth Pounds must be spent within three months of the draw date. If this is not possible, an extension may be requested via our contact form.

For Businesses

After each draw, participating businesses receive a confidential list of winners and prize amounts as an additional layer of fraud prevention. This information must not be displayed publicly. When a business has received Horsforth Pounds from customers, they should contact a member of the subcommittee to arrange collection. The equivalent amount in sterling is then transferred to the business bank account.
