Horsforth Lottery

How It Works

The rules of the Horsforth Local Lottery

Buying a Ticket

Tickets cost £1 each and are sold strictly to people aged 16 and over. They are available from a limited number of outlets throughout Horsforth. The locations may change from time to time at the discretion of the lottery subcommittee, and a current list of stockists is displayed on this website.

The Draw

The draw takes place on the first Tuesday of every month, overseen by members of Horsforth Town Team. It is usually held at around 6pm in the Green Room at The Old Kings Arms, The Green, Horsforth, LS18 5JB. Each draw is filmed and broadcast live on social media so that anyone can watch in real time.

Prize Structure

Five prizes are awarded in each draw, calculated as a percentage of the total ticket revenue for that month. All amounts are rounded to the nearest whole Horsforth Pound (H£).

Prize Share of Revenue
1st Prize30%
2nd Prize20%
3rd Prize15%
4th Prize10%
5th Prize5%

The lottery licence permits a maximum payout of 80% of revenue. The remaining 20% is used to cover the running costs of the lottery and to fund local charities, community groups, and other good causes. All allocations are openly advertised.

Claiming Your Prize

Winning ticket numbers are announced at the draw and published on social media and local noticeboards. If you hold a winning ticket, contact a member of the lottery subcommittee as soon as possible after the draw to arrange collection of your prize.

Winners must agree to have their photograph taken by the subcommittee. These photographs are shared with participating businesses solely for the purpose of validating prize redemptions. They are not shared publicly without consent.

Spending Your Winnings

All prizes are paid in Horsforth Pounds (H£) only. There is no cash alternative under any circumstances. H£ notes can be spent at any participating business in Horsforth. Look for the Horsforth Pound sign in store windows, or check the list of participating businesses on this website.

You do not have to spend all your winnings in one go. Use as many or as few H£ notes as you like, at as many different businesses as you wish. However, no change in sterling will be given for a Horsforth Pound. Each note must be spent in full in a single transaction. This ensures the full benefit of the scheme reaches every participating business.

Horsforth Pounds must be spent within three months of the draw date. If this is not possible, an extension may be requested in writing to the Horsforth Local Lottery subcommittee, c/o 4 Airedale Drive, Horsforth, Leeds LS18 5ED.

For Businesses

After each draw, participating businesses receive a confidential list of winners and prize amounts as an additional layer of fraud prevention. This information must not be displayed publicly.

When a business has received Horsforth Pounds from customers, they should contact a member of the subcommittee to arrange collection. The equivalent amount in sterling is then transferred to the business bank account.
