The Horsforth Local Lottery is a small society lottery operated for community benefit. It is intended to be a fun and affordable way to support local causes. For the vast majority of people it remains exactly that. However, we recognise that for some people gambling can become a problem, and we take our responsibilities seriously.
Who Can Play
You must be 18 or over to purchase a lottery ticket. Our retail partners are required to refuse sales to anyone who appears to be under 18. If you believe a ticket has been sold to a minor, please let us know using the contact form below.
Keeping It in Perspective
A lottery ticket costs £1. The odds of winning depend on how many tickets are sold each month. Prizes are paid in Horsforth Pounds and must be spent locally. The lottery is not a financial investment and should never be treated as one. Please only spend what you can comfortably afford.
Signs of Problem Gambling
Gambling becomes a problem when it stops being entertainment and starts causing harm. Warning signs include the following.
- Spending more money on gambling than you can afford to lose.
- Feeling anxious, irritable, or low when you are not gambling.
- Chasing losses by gambling more to try to win back what you have lost.
- Hiding your gambling activity from family or friends.
- Gambling to escape stress, boredom, or difficult emotions.
- Neglecting work, family, or personal responsibilities because of gambling.
- Borrowing money to gamble or pay gambling debts.
If any of these apply to you, or to someone you know, support is available.
Self-Exclusion
If you would like to self-exclude from the Horsforth Local Lottery, please use our contact form and select "General enquiry" as the subject. Include the words "self-exclusion request" in your message. We will process your request within 5 working days and ensure you are removed from any promotional communications.
For broader self-exclusion from online gambling, we strongly recommend registering with GAMSTOP (gamstop.co.uk), the national self-exclusion scheme.
