The Horsforth Local Lottery is being set up by Horsforth Town Team to encourage everyone to shop locally and support all Horsforth businesses. The lottery is fully licensed by Leeds City Council and is managed by a sub-committee of the Horsforth Town Team.
Lottery tickets will be sold from limited locations across Horsforth, prizes will be given in a local currency, the Horsforth Pound (H£). It is hoped that most Horsforth businesses will accept the Horsforth Pound as a form of payment for their goods and services.
Draws will take place monthly (1st Tuesday of each month) and there will be 5 prizes at each draw. 1st Prize – 30% of the money taken in the relevant month of the draw (paid to the nearest H£) 2nd Prize – 20% of the money taken in the relevant month of the draw (paid to the nearest H£) 3rd Prize -15% of the money taken in the relevant month of the draw (paid to the nearest H£) 4th Prize – 10% of the money taken in the relevant month of the draw (paid to the nearest H£) 5th Prize – 5% of the money taken in the relevant month of the draw (paid to the nearest H£) (The licence for running the Lottery only allows us to pay out 80% of the money taken. The remainder of the money (20%) will be used for ongoing running costs of the Lottery or given to local charities, community groups and other good causes – all will be openly advertised).
Winning ticket numbers will be advertised on social media, on this website and on local noticeboards. Winners will make contact with a member of the sub-committee to receive their winnings (it is hoped that winners would agree to having their photo taken for promotional purposes but this is not mandatory). The winnings can then be spent in the local businesses who have chaose to accept the Horsforth Pound (H£). All prizes will be paid out in Horsforth Pounds (H£) only – no cash alternative will be available under any circumstances. Winners do not have to spend all the Horsforth Pounds (H£) in one go, they may spend as many as they like/have, in as many different Horsforth businesses as they wish to. However, no change in stirling can be given for a Horsforth Pound (H£), a whole note must be spent in one transaction. This is to ensure the full benefit of the scheme to all participating businesses. Horsforth Pounds (H£) must be ‘spent’ within 3-months of winning. If this isn’t possible, an extension may be requested in writing to the Horsforth Local Lottery managing sub-committee.
Businesses receiving the Horsforth Pound (H£) will have signed up using the official form and will be provided with posters and information about the lottery. Once a business has received some local currency, they should contact a member of the sub-committee to let them know how many Horsforth Pounds (H£) they have. These will then be collected by a member of the lottery team, and the same amount of sterling will then be transferred into the nominated business bank account, with minimal delay and disruption to the business.
